Treasurer Josh Frydenberg’s rejection of a $300 million bid by China to acquire a major Australian building contractor “sends a strong message” that not all of Australia is for sale, says Sky News host Chris Smith. China has since accused Australia of weaponizing the concept of national security after the treasurer blocked the sale of Australia-based company Probuild to state-owned China State Construction Engineering Corporation. “The Chinese Embassy is livid,” Mr Smith said. “They simply don’t get it, we’ve got the right to pick and choose which countries invest in our critical assets. “China cannot open their cheque book and buy whatever they want endlessly.” Mr Smith pointed to multiple other investment efforts from China which were knocked back by the federal government. “Well done Josh Frydenberg for standing up to these bullies in Beijing who think they can come here and buy up this country,” he said. “It sends a strong message; not all of Australia is for sale, and some of Australia is not for sale at any price.”
