Vicki Cleary is the sister of VFL star Phil Cleary, and in 1987 she was killed by the ex-boyfriend she’d left three months earlier. Vicki’s killer was offered a provocation defence, found not guilty of murder, and served less than four years in jail. Since Vicki’s death, Phil who is a member of the Victims Survivors’ Advisory Council has campaigned tirelessly for gender equality and to end violence against women. As a former footballer he uses sport as a platform to change men's attitudes at a grassroots level and uses his love of the game to inspire and challenge young men across the football and broader community.
